The Sonali Bank Limited (SBL) filed on Monday another case against owners of the Hall-Mark Group to recover about Tk 136.2 million, allegedly embezzled by one of the entities of the group.
SBL executive officer Md Abdus Salam filed the case in the court of judge Md Rabiuzzaman of Artha Rin Adalat on behalf of the bank.
Hall-Mark chairman Jesmin Islam and managing director (MD) Tanvir Mahmud are the accused in the case. The name of the Hall-Mark entity is the Boby Flat Printing Limited.
After filing the case, Mr Salam said, it is the 15th case against the Hall-Mark owners and the bank will file a total of 21 cases.
On February 3, the SBL board of directors decided to file cases against the Hall-Mark Group with Artha Rin Adalat and other civil courts in a bid to recover the money embezzled by the group.
An investigation by the Bangladesh Bank revealed that the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel branch of the SBL had lent the Hall-Mark Group and five other companies Tk 36.06 billion between 2010 and May 2012 on the basis of fake documents.
