Detained Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina may be allowed to see her ailing husband MA Wazed Miah at Square Hospital today (Tuesday).
DIG(Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told UNB they have received former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's application Saturday night seeking to see her husband. The application has already been sent to the Home Ministry for final approval.
"We hope we will receive a positive massage from the Home Ministry accepting her appeal tomorrow (Tuesday). After getting the order, we'll take her to Square Hospital," Major Siddiqui said.
65-year-old nuclear scientist Wazed has been suffering from heart and diabetes complications.
After the arrest of Hasina on July 16, Wazed was admitted
to Lab Aid Specialized Hospital with "acute chest pain" and discharged on July 23. Again on July 26, he was admitted to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital with "hypoglycemia and electrolyte disorder" and then shifted to Incentive Care Unit of Square Hospital on July 27.
Meanwhile, AL leader Munnujan Sufian Monday went to see Hasina at the makeshift jail in the parliament building complex with palm-cakes, coconuts, guava, lemons and batabi lemons for her but the police did not allow her to meet her. The food items she carried were however kept for giving to Hasina with the permission of authorities.
