The High Court (HC) further adjourned hearing on its rule Monday relating to the whereabouts of 'missing' BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed till April 08.
The HC bench, comprising Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore, passed the order after hearing on the rule for the second day.
The Supreme Court (SC) is set to go on vacation today (Tuesday) and reopen on April 01.
Earlier on Thursday, the HC issued the rule, following a petition filed by Mr Salahuddin's wife Hasina Ahmed, seeking its order to the government to produce him before the court within 24 hours.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a former state minister and BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) lawmaker, remains missing since March 10.
During the hearing on Monday, Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam placed the law-enforcers' reports, submitted in reply to the HC rule on whereabouts of the BNP leader, in affidavit before the court.
In his submissions, the AG reiterated that the law-enforcers did not arrest him, and they are not aware of his whereabouts. However, they are also searching him.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has increased the number of check-posts in different areas of the country and strengthened its efforts to this effect.
Mahbubey Alam also prayed for disposal of the rule, as Mr Ahmed is not in custody of the law-enforcers and not found despite their searching.
While Barrister Moudud Ahmed, counsel of Mr Salahuddin, told the court that they would reply to the law-enforcers' reports.
Former AG AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Badruddoza Badol were also present for the petitioner.
Later, Mrs Hasina Ahmed, who was also present during the hearing, told the newsmen that the law-enforcers' reports are 'false'.
"The law-enforcers, not anyone else, picked up Mr Ahmed from a house at Uttara in the capital," she asserted. Regarding the government's claim on making 'drama' by the BNP leader, she said then, it is the government's responsibility to prove it by producing Mr Ahmed before the people and the court.
The law enforcers earlier denied arrest of Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna. But later they themselves produced him before the court, she added.
The BNP leader's wife also sought help of the Prime Minister and the people to bring her husband back to the family members.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in its latest statement said the whole country is being aggrieved and astonished over the recent remarks and mockeries, made by the government's key personalities in respect to the party's senior leader Salahuddin Ahmed, who remained missing for the last several days.
The statement, issued by BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu on behalf of the 20-party alliance on Monday, said 'the illegal government has failed to ensure public safety and to produce BNP leader and former minister Salahuddin Ahmed before the court'.
Reiterating its demand of safe and secure return of the politician to his family, the statement also called upon all democracy-loving people and organizations to come forward to this effect.
