Azam Reza, who had been condemned to death for killing his architect wife Joyanti Reza in 2004, Monday got his capital punishment commuted to life imprisonment, reports UNB.
A division bench of the High Court, comprising Justice AKM Fazlur Rahman and Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, pronounced the judgment on a death reference case along with a jail appeal filed by Azam Reza, now in his mid 50s.
On January 17 in 2005, a Speedy Trial Tribunal here found Azam Reza, then vice-president of Dhaka Bank, guilty of murdering his wife Joyanti, also a teacher of Australian International School in the capital, and sentenced him to death.
In its judgment, the bench observed that it was not a planned murder
