HC confirms Khaleda's ineligibility to contest polls

December 19, 2018 00:00:00

The High Court rejected on Tuesday a writ petition filed challenging the cancellation of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's candidature, barring her from contesting the December-30 parliamentary elections from three constituencies, reports UNB.

The one-member bench of Justice JBM Hassan passed the order.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said Khaleda Zia won't be able to contest the elections as it is the final decision.

Earlier in the morning, the bench rejected a petition of Khaleda's counsel expressing 'no-confidence' in the single-judge bench.

Later, her lawyers boycotted the court without attending hearing of the writ.

The High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing for Tuesday.

This is the first time the former prime minister held in jail is missing the parliamentary election.
