Hearing of bail plea put off as PP sick

FE REPORT | November 21, 2023 00:00:00

The court hearing on a bail petition filed by BNP secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been deferred until November 22 following sickness of the chief public prosecutor.

A Dhaka court on Monday made the deferment in connection with a case filed over an attack on the residence of the Chief Justice on October 28.

Judge (in-charge) of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, Faisal Atiq Bin Kader, passed the order, said advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder who appeared in the proceedings for Mr Fakhrul.

As chief public prosecutor Abdullah Abu fell sick all of a sudden, an appeal was made to defer the bail hearing. But Mr Fakhrul's lawyers protested it.

After hearing the statements of both sides, the court fixed the new date.

On November 02, lawyer Zainul Abedin Mesbah filed a plea with the court of Md Assaduzzaman, seeking bail for his client in the case filed with Ramna police station.

On October 29, a magistrate court rejected a bail petition filed by the BNP leader in the case.

Later, the petition was filed with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's court against the order passed by the metropolitan court.
