A special tribunal in Dhaka on Sunday set June 1 for a hearing on charge framing in a case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter.
Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal passed the order after accepting the charge sheet submitted in the case, said tribunal bench assistant Pankoj Peter Gomes.
Earlier in the day, police submitted the charge sheet against the accused Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Khatun before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.
The case was later transferred to the special tribunal for trial proceedings.
The accused were brought to the lockup of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court between 11:20am and 11:45am on Sunday, said Sub-Inspector Ripon Mollah, in-charge of the lockup.
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department handed over the DNA report in the case to the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman Bhuiyan of Pallabi Police Station.
Ramisa, a second grader, was found dead on May 19 in a flat adjacent to her family's residence in Dhaka's Pallabi area with her throat slit and head severed.
Police later arrested Sohel Rana, 30, and his wife Swapna Akter, 26, tenants of the neighbouring flat, from Fatulla in connection with the murder.
At a press briefing on the night of the incident, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said investigators initially believed the child had been raped before being killed.
The suspect severed the victim's head in an attempt to conceal the crime, the police said.
Meanwhile, Ramisa's father Abdul Hannan Molla said he was hopeful of getting justice for his daughter.
"I have 100 per cent trust in the Prime Minister's assurance that a fair and swift trial will be conducted in my daughter's murder and we will get justice," he told reporters after visiting Ramisa's grave at their family graveyard in Madhya Shialdi village under Sirajdikhan Upazila following Jumma prayers on Friday.
"I expect the severest punishment for the killer," he added.
