Hoteliers and resort owners at various tourism spots of the country made brisk business during the Eid-ul-Fitr this year as the turnout at different tourism spots was higher compared to that last year, industry insiders said.
A large number of visitors went to different tourism hot spots like Cox's Bazar, Kuakata, Sylhet, Rangamati and Bandarban as a stable political situation prevails in the country. A better political environment and a long vacation have contributed to the increase in the tourist flow this year. Full reservation of hotels, motels and resorts will start decreasing by 4th of this month, the insiders have said.
The tourism industry faced a difficult situation last year due to volatile politics over the last national election.
Talking to the FE, managing director of Pebble Stone Sea Resort at Inani of Cox's Bazar, said at least 0.1 million visitors from the nearby districts visited the place. Besides, a large number of tourists went there as residential guests.
All the hotels, motels and resorts had seen full occupancy since Thursday and it would continue until next Sunday, he added.
Front office manager of Seagull Hotel, Cox's Bazar Mr Nuruddin said their hotel had 50 per cent occupancy on the Eid day and it gradually increased to 100 per cent since Thursday.
Mr Nuruddin said almost all the hotels would be more or less vacant by Monday.
Echoing him, Hotel Media International front desk manager Anisul Mostafa said they were facing tremendous tourist pressure during the Eid. The hotel had 99 per cent occupancy a day after Eid and it would continue until Sunday, he added.
Tourist turnout at another beach town Kuakata was also good.
Hotel Kuakata Inn front desk officer Saiful Islam said their Eid business was better in the current year compared to last year. The hotel had full occupancy since Wednesday and it would continue until Sunday. However, these hotels did not have any special offers for the visitors during Eid. After the Eid rush they would offer price discount to revamp their business, industry insiders said.
A significant number of tourists have visited tourism area Sylhet as a good number of posh resorts have been developed in the area over the past couple of years turning the place into a major tourist attraction.
Front office supervisor of Du Sai Resort and Spa Hotel at Moulvibazar said the resort had full occupancy since Wednesday, a day after Eid. The business was better than that of last year, he added.
