To be free of single-use plastics

FE REPORT | September 11, 2024 00:00:00

The airport areas in Dhaka will turn into a silent zone from October 1 when a ban on honking horns will be effective.

The silent zone stretches 1.0 km north and south from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan told a virtual meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting was organised to discuss issues of banning single-use plastics and blowing horns in the airport areas.

The adviser said the use of alternative materials will be encouraged to make the HSIA free of single-use plastics. This program will be strengthened as per the directives of the Cabinet Division.

She said that necessary campaigns will be carried out in the areas adjacent to the airport, and it will be promoted in the electronic and print media.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) will hold a meeting on September 17 with the departments and agencies concerned to finalise the plan.

A mobile court will be operated by the Department of Environment, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), CAAB, and traffic police in the airport area from October 1.
