ICAB awards 43 financial outfits for best annual reports in 2013

A total of 43 banks, non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs), insurance companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and public-sector entities won the ICAB National Award for their best presented annual reports on their financial affairs in 2013.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed over the 14th ICAB National Award to the recipients as the chief guest at a ceremony arranged by the Institution of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at a city hotel Sunday.

The award-giving ceremony was addressed, among others, by Showkat Hossain FCA, President of the ICAB, and Abbas Uddin Khan FCA, Chairman of the Review Committee for Published Accounts and Reports of the ICAB.

The award was given in 10 separate categories for preparing and publishing their annual reports 2013 with disclosure of "maximum relevant information in a more transparent way".

ICAB gives the award annually since 2001.

Among all the private-sector banks (including co-operative banks), Prime Bank Ltd bagged the first award while Bank Asia Ltd and Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) jointly garnered the second award, and Eastern Bank Ltd and Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) got the third one.

In the category of public-sector bank, Janata Bank Ltd and Rupali Bank Ltd jointly won the first award while Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd (BDBL) secured the second position.

IDLC Finance Ltd topped the list in the category of financial services sector while Prime Finance & Investment Ltd and Union Capital Ltd jointly became second and Lanka Bangla Finance Company Ltd won the third award.

In the same category, DBH Finance Ltd and Uttara Finance & Investment Ltd received the certificate-of-merit award.

Green Delta Insurance Company Ltd (GDIC) stood first, Reliance Insurance Company Ltd second and Prime Insurance Company Ltd third in the award ratings in the category of insurance sector. Eastland Insurance Company Ltd received the certificate of merit in the same category.

Among the manufacturing entities, BSRM was crowned with the top award while Singer Bangladesh Ltd and GlaxoSmithKline came out as the second and third award winners respectively.

Country's largest telecom operator, Grameenphone (GP), alone bagged the top award in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

In the NGO category, BRAC secured the top position while Sajida Foundation the second and Uddipan the third awards. Buro Bangladesh received the certificate of merit.

The Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) alone bagged the first award in the category of public-sector entities (excluding entities covered under other sectors/categories). No other entity did qualify for the award in this category.

In the category of corporate governance disclosure, the first award went to IDLC Finance Ltd while Janata Bank Ltd and Prime Bank Ltd became second and third winners respectively. Bank Asia Ltd, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Union Capital Ltd and Prime Finance Ltd got the certificate-of-merit awards.

In the category of service sector (excluding financial services and communications and IT sector), Unique Hotel and Resort Ltd won the certificate of merit.

Aside from five banks awarded with the first, second and third awards in the category of private-sector bank (including co-operative banks), 15 banks received certificate of merit.

They are Social Islami Bank Ltd, United Commercial Bank Ltd, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd, Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd, IFIC Bank, Trust Bank Ltd, Dhaka Bank Ltd, National Bank Ltd, South East Bank Ltd, NCC Bank Ltd, Mercantile Bank Ltd, The City Bank Ltd, Jamuna Bank Ltd, Pubali Bank Ltd and Premier Bank Ltd.
