NEW YORK, Mar 04: The International Criminal Court (ICC) will investigate allegations of crime against humanity by Gaddafi, the eccentric Libyan dictator. The UN Security Council (UNSC) Saturday last approved a resolution directing the ICC to launch an investigation. The ICC prosecutor said the UN resolution has given him the authority to begin investigation. Gaddafi has pledged to fight unto death to repulse the opposition agitating for wide ranging political reforms and end to plundering of nation's wealth by the members of the ruling family. He accused the "armed gangsters" for the rebellion and warned all of a bloody war if foreign powers intervened. He promised to kill thousands of protesting Libyans if the US or Nato become involved in the conflict. Libya is a Jamhuriya (democracy) and there is an international conspiracy to seize the oil rich country, he added. The anti-government protesters in the Middle-East and Arab world are proud they have not resorted to violence or sought foreign assistance. But in Libya the scenario is changing. The pro-democracy activists are now requesting for a US-led international air offensive in areas still under control of Gaddafi. So far international powers appear more willing to issue threats rather then intervening militarily. The concept of bribing the people to buy silence and peace is the order of the day in Arab world and Middle-East, now torn asunder by violent protest against family rule and unbridled corruption by the ruling cliques.
