ICMAB recognises 46 organisations

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) on Thursday recognised 46 listed and non-listed organisations in 17 categories for their best corporate practices based on financial parameters and non-financial indicators.

Winners of the ICMAB Best Corporate award are recognised with gold, silver and bronze categories.

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, advisor, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Science and Technology and special guest Sk Bashir Uddin, commerce advisor, handed over the awards to the winners at a gala event held at the Grand Ballroom of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka.

A Jury Board chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, former governor of Bangladesh Bank, Mr. Anis A. Khan, president, board of trustees, Bangladesh Cancer Aid Trust - BANCAT, and Mr. Muzaffar Ahmed FCMA, executive president, Credit Rating Information and Services, reviewed the approved list of winners, which was evaluated and recommended by 45 expert members of the evaluation team of the Institute.

Speaking at the event Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said his government has been inherited huge and formidable challenges in the financial sector.

"But the problems are not insurmountable and can be solved," he said.

The role of cost and management accountants have important role to play I the journey to future, he also said.

Salehuddin Ahmed said, "Despite reduction in duties, prices of many commodities haven't come down. This is matter of transparency and accountability and it needs to be addressed."

Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin said the council of advisers are super sincere in serving the country.

Md. Selim Uddin, secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, secretary, Internal Resources Division and the chairman of National Board of Revenue, also graced the programme as special guests.

Distinguished guests from different ministries, trade bodies, regulators, stakeholders, and the awardees attended the ceremony.

Arif Khan, fellow chartered management accountant (FCMA), chairman of the Corporate Award Committee and former president of the ICMAB, delivered the welcome speech, while Mahtab Uddin Ahmed FCMA, president of ICMAB, delivered the presidential address.

At the end, S.M. Zahir Uddin Haider FCMA, the secretary at the ICMAB, offered a vote of thanks.

Corporate Awards:

In the State-Owned Commercial Bank (SOCB) category, Sonali Bank became the gold position winner, Rupali Bank became the silver position winner and Agrani Bank became the bronze position winner.

In the Private Commercial Bank category, BRAC Bank secured the gold position, Eastern Bank secured the silver position and Dutch Bangla Bank secured the Bronze position.

In the Private Commercial Bank (Islamic Operation) category, Shahjalal Islami Bank won the gold position.

In the Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI) category, IDLC Finance won the gold position, DBH Finance won the silver position and IPDC Finance won the bronze position.

In the Non-Life Insurance category, Sena Insurance won the gold position, City Insurance secured the silver position and Reliance Insurance won the bronze position.

In the Life Insurance category, National Life Insurance secured the gold position, Pragati Life Insurance secured the silver position and Sandhani Life Insurance Company secured the bronze position.

In the Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing category, Square Pharmaceuticals won the gold position, Renata won the silver position and Beximco Pharmaceuticals won the bronze position.

In the Cement Manufacturing category, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh secured the gold position, Crown Cement secured the silver position and Premier Cement Mills secured the bronze position.

In the Garments-Textile manufacturing category, Matin Spinning Mills won the gold position, Paramount Textile won the silver and Square Textiles won the bronze position.

In the MNC Manufacturing category, Marico Bangladesh Limited won the gold position, British American Tobacco Bangladesh won the silver position and Reckitt Benckiser (Bangladesh) won the bronze position.

In the Other Manufacturing category BSRM Steels Limited hold the gold position, RAK Ceramics (Bangladesh) hold the silver position and Social Marketing Company (SMC) hold the bronze position.

In the Power Generation category, United Power Generation & Distribution Company was awarded the gold position and Doreen Power Generations and Systems was awarded the Bronze position.

In the Oil, Gas & Energy category, Jamuna Oil Company became the gold position winner, Meghna Petroleum Limited became silver position winner and Padma Oil Company became the bronze position winner.

In the NGO category, BRAC secured the gold position, icddr,b was awarded the silver position and Action Aid- Bangladesh was awarded the bronze position.

In the Agro & Food Processing category, Olympic Industries got the gold position, Index Agro Industries got the silver position and Agricultural Marketing Co. got the bronze position.

In the Trading & Assembly category, Walton Hi-Tech Industries secured the gold position, Bangladesh Submarine Cables secured the silver position.

In the IT & Telecommunication category Grameenphone got the gold position and Robi Axiata got the silver position.
