The government has finally proposed bringing down the import duty on newsprint from the existing 25 per cent to 15 per cent responding to a long-standing demand of the newspaper industry, reports bdnews24.com.
"I propose reduction of customs duty on the import of newsprint considering the problems of the newspaper industry," said Finance and Planning Adviser AB Mirza Md Azizul Islam in his budget proposals for FY 2007-08 Thursday.
The adviser also offered duty-free import of newsprint raw materials to develop the local newsprint industry.
