FE Report
India will extend credit worth over $500 million (Rs 2,300 crore) for Bangladesh's infrastructure sector, besides help boosting its power generation, according to an Indian newspaper report Saturday.
These will be done, as the Indian government has decided to show gratitude for Bangladesh's fight against Indian north-east insurgent groups such as the ULFA.
The pacts will be signed during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's five-day visit to India, beginning January 10.
Three terror-related agreements, including one on transfer of sentenced persons, will also be inked, which are likely to facilitate the handover of ULFA leader Anup Chetia, lodged in a Bangladesh jail since the 1990s.
The Indian central government hopes that the deals would expand the counter-terror cooperation launched after Hasina's return to power in December 2008.
