India train crash kills 10, injures more than 100

Passengers trapped in the wreckage were reportedly screaming for help in the dark

At least 10 people were killed and more than 100 were injured Friday night when a passenger train smashed into a freight train near a station in India, reports the Messenger.

Other passengers remained trapped in the wreckage and were screaming in the dark to be rescued, according to a report on the Sakala website.

The crash occurred around 7:50 p.m. near the Bahanga station in the Balasore district of Odisha state on India's northeastern coast, the Sakala said.

Eight cars of the Coromandel Express passenger train reportedly derailed as a result of the collision.

The train left Chennai at 3:30 p.m. Friday and was scheduled to arrive in Chennai at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, the Hindustan Times reported.
