Indian businesses keen to invest in Bangladesh in a greater way

Indian business leaders expressed their interest to invest in Bangladesh in a greater way and extend all cooperation in reducing the existing trade gap between the two neighbouring countries, report agencies.
The visiting five-member delegation of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Kolkata led by its Kolkata chapter President Sanjoy Budhia has shown their interest when they called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in the city.
During the meeting, they discussed different business aspects including expansion of trade and commerce between Bangladesh and India as well as maintaining balance of trade and investment. Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters after the meeting.
The PM told the delegation that a process is underway to establish Special Economic Zones in the country and urged the Indian businessmen to invest there.
When the matter of public-private coordination in economy came up for discussion, Sheikh Hasina said her government attaches equal importance to both the public and private sectors for overall development.
On expanding trade and commerce, the Indian businessmen requested the Prime Minister to set up a Deputy High Commission or consulate in Guwahati, the largest city of Assam. In response, the Hasina said her government would consider about it.
The Indian business delegation greeted Sheikh Hasina on assumption of office as Prime Minister.
The delegation said Sheikh Hasina with her wisdom and farsightedness has established herself as the leader of not only of Bangladesh, but also of the whole South Asia.
Commerce Minister Lt Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan, Prime Minister's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Moshiur Rahman, Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Mollah Wahiduzzaman and leading industrialist-businessman Salman F Rahman were present.
Later, Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.
They discussed matters relating to mutual interest including developing trade and commerce between the two countries. Issue of maritime boundary between Bangladesh and India also came up in the discussion.
During the meeting, the Indian High Commissioner expressed his condolence and deep shock at the killing of army officers in BDR headquarters on February 25-26. The envoy lauded the Prime Minister's wisdom and farsightedness in solving the crisis in a peaceful manner.
The Prime Minister enquired about the health condition of Pinank as he was ill for the last few days.
Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Mollah Wahiduzzamn, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, former Ambassador M Ziauddin and PM's Special Assistant Abdus Sobhan Golap were present.
