The High Commission of India has protested against a newspaper report regarding Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee having discussed intervening in the internal political developments in Bangladesh with certain Bangladeshi politicians and activists.
In a press release Thursday, the high commission termed the report mischievous, misleading and irresponsibility.
"The External Affairs Minister does not meet with visitors from Bangladesh to interfere in matters relating to internal political developments in that country," it said.
India has and will respect the sovereignty of Bangladesh, which is a close and friendly neighbour, it added.
