A four-member Indian delegation, led by Foreign Secretary Shibshankar Menon, arrives in the city today (Sunday) for Foreign Secretary-level consultations between India and Bangladesh on the entire gamut of bilateral relations, reports UNB.
The delegation, coming at the invitation of Bangladesh Foreign Secretary M Touhid Hossain, will have "wide-range discussions on all aspects of India-Bangladesh bilateral relations" during the four-day visit, a Foreign Ministry announcement said. Besides, the Indian Foreign Secretary will also call on high dignitaries of the country as part of the parleys.
"The government is of the view that the visit of the Indian Foreign Secretary will be yet another important opportunity to carry on the process of constructive and forward-looking engagement between the two countries," said the release.
The upcoming foreign office consultations, it is expected, would also help advance the Indo-Bangladesh relations enriching further the cooperation between the two friendly next-door neighbours in areas of common interests, the release added.
Over the years, the two countries have tried to resolve longstanding problems, mostly dating back to the 1947 partition of the sub-continent, through negotiations at different levels of the two governments. But many of those considered irritants, and remain to be resolved.
