The number of active internet users in the country has reached nearly 42.3 million until September, up from 40.8 million in the previous month, the telecom regulator said.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) recently published the figure of internet users.

According to statistics, to get the data services, a total of 4.7 million people use mobile internet while 0.26 million use WiMax internet and 1.23 million use ISP (internet service provider) and PSTN (public switched telephone network) networks.

In August, of the 40.8 million subscribers, some 39.32 million people used mobile internet, 0.27 million used WiMax, and 1.23 people used ISP and PSTN network.

Analysing the data, it is found that despite WiMax, ISP and PSTN network users have been declining, the mobile internet subscribers continue to move up. Considering the rapid growth of internet users, currently telecom operators are focusing on data services and internet penetration in their major business.

BTRC spokesman said that a subscriber uses internet for the last 90 days is considered to be an active user.
