Int'l debit cards allowed to pay visa fees

International cards (debit and prepaid) to be issued by the authorised dealers (ADs) can be used for online payments of visa- processing fees, the central bank said on Wednesday.

The foreign exchange policy department of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) explained in a circular that the move is to facilitate smooth transactions.

The ADs may issue international cards in the name of official designated by nominated agents, it said.

The BB has asked the ADs to report such foreign exchange transactions to the Foreign Exchange Operation Department of the central bank according to a format prepared by the central bank.

Visa processing fees, among others, collected through nominated resident agents of foreign embassies can be remitted abroad to the bank accounts designated by embassies or their home offices.
