Iqbal for women's involvement in cooperative movement

Adviser for LGRD and Cooperatives Mohammad Anwarul Iqbal Wednesday urged the women to get involved in the cooperative movement to help raise the country's socio- economic progress, reports BSS
He referred to the women's minimum involvement in the cooperative movement and said they could play a vital role by engaging themselves in various income-generating activities to further develop the country's economy.
The Adviser made the call while addressing the inaugural function of a workshop on `Increasing the Role of Women in Cooperatives Movement' at Samabay Bhaban in the city International Cooperatives Alliance Asia Pacific (ICAAP) and the Department of Cooperatives jointly organised the workshop.
Regional Director of the ICAAP Shil Kwan Lee, Registrar of The Department of Cooperatives Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Adviser of ICAAP Gender Programme Savitri Singh, among others, addressed the function with Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Mohammad Nazrul Islam in the chair.
A total of 40 cooperative members took part in the day-long workshop.
Anwar Iqbal said the women entrepreneurs in cooperatives should come forward for expanding different small ventures like handicrafts, fashion deigns, garments and cottage industry side by side with widening the marketing of their products.
The Adviser suggested diversification of production, improving products' quality with value addition and increasing skill of the cooperators to further strengthen the cooperative movement.
