Iranian container ship now out of danger

BAGERHAT, July 02 (UNB): Iranian container ship MV Mir Danad, which was sinking in the Bay with 17 crews Sunday after cracks developed on its lower deck, has come out of danger.
"The ship is safe now," Harbour Master of Mongla Port Captain Shariful said adding that reasons behind the crack could not be immediately known.
The crews of MV Mir Danad started removing water from the ship with pump machine. Some 40 per cent water was removed from the ship until Monday noon.
The main engine and two generators of the ship were damaged by water.
Mongla Naval Ship BNS Karotoa reached the spot Sunday night to salvage the Iranian ship that sailed from Chittagong Port on Thursday for Chennai Port of India with 91 empty containers on board.
