It can't be called a true election: Shahdeen Malik

Legal expert Dr Shahdeen Malik on Monday said the 12th National Parliament election was not competitive at all.
On the other hand, Senior Supreme Court lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said, the election was very much competitive.
While talking to the reporters at the Supreme Court premises, the lawyers gave their reactions over the 12th parliamentary elections.
Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik said, "It cannot be called elections in a true sense. The moral foundation of the government that the Awami League will form will be weak. If the moral foundation of a government is weak, it becomes difficult for them to run the country properly. I think the government will continue as it is. They will plan for some mega projects and the people who are close to the government will be benefited financially."
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said, "The 12th national election was very much competitive. Foreigners didn't make any complain over this election procedure. So it is useless to give any threat in the name of sanctions. It is unprecedented in the country's history that total 62 independent candidates elected in a national election. It becomes possible because the election was competitive."
The 12th national election took place on Sunday and the ruling Awami League won an absolute majority.
