The Bangladesh Railway (BR) will introduce a new train service on Dhaka-Jamalpur route and inaugurate newly installed tracks in Pabna and Faridpur on Sunday.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will launch the Jamalpur Express, a 53-kilometre new track on Pabna-Dhalar Char and a 31-km track from Faridpur to Bhanga through videoconferencing from Gonobhaban.

She will also inaugurate the replacement of a total coach set of Udayan-Paharika Express on Sylhet-Chattogram route.

With the launch of Jamalpur Express, rail officials said a wider section of population will be able to avail the service to get connected with different destinations.

The new service will also help develop agriculture in the region, they added.

According to the BR, Jamalpur Express will depart Dhaka at 10:30 am and reach Jamalpur at 4:05 pm.

The return train will start at 5:45 pm and reach Dhaka at 11:30 pm.

It will stop at Airport, Joydevpur, Tangail, Bangabandhu Bridge East, Bhuapur, Hemnagar, Tarakandi and Sarishabari stations.

The train accommodates 620 seats, including 11 air-conditioned chairs and 510 (second class) chairs.

In 2019, the BR rolled out four trains -- Banalata Express on Dhaka-Chapainawabganj route, Panchagarh Express on Dhaka-Panchagarh route, Benapole Express on Dhaka-Benapole and Kurigram Express on Dhaka-Kurigram route.

Earlier, the national rail authorities inaugurated a 25-kilometre track between Pabna and Ishwardi.
