Traders staged a demonstration in front of the city's Jamuna Future Park on Saturday, demanding adequate security at the mall.

The protestors also demanded compensation for thefts in mobile phone shops and resignation of the general manager (GM) of the market.

The traders demonstrated around 12 noon on the day and blocked the road in front of the mall, witnesses said, adding that an additional number of policemen and army personnel were deployed to avert any untoward situation.

However, the traders moved their demonstration inside the market premises around 1:30pm.

Shop owners and employees also staged their protests Friday afternoon, blocking Pragati Sarani in front of the mall.

Later, they were displaced by members of the law enforcement and army personnel.

According to the protesters, several mobile phone shops were robbed on Thursday night, causing a significant amount of losses to them.

As a result, the aggrieved shop owners and employees took to the streets to demand enhanced security of the market and their compensation.
