The High Court (HC) granted anticipatory bail to Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul and Hall-Mark Group Chairman Jasmine Islam in separate cases Sunday.
Mr Babul got eight-week anticipatory bail in each of the two cases filed on charge of his negligence to duties in construction work, and supplying of 'RAB-dress' like uniforms to own security persons.
Both the cases were filed with the Bhatara police station in the city on December 31 and January 12 last respectively. Mr Babul sought the bail personally appearing before the court.
The HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed granted his bail. Advocate Ziaul Haque appeared for Mr Babul while Khandker Diliruzzaman stood up for the government.
Sources said the December 31 case was filed on charge of Mr Babul's negligence in duties in the incident of death of motorbike rider Shahin Mia as an iron-shutter fell on him from an under-construction building of Jumuna Future Park. Hazrat Ali, brother of the deceased, filed the case against Mr Babul and six others.
While a RAB member filed the January 12 case on the allegation of Mr Babul's 'deception intention' in supplying RAB-dress like uniforms to his security persons.
Meanwhile, Jasmine Islam was granted a four-week anticipatory bail in a case recently filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for not submitting her wealth statement in due time.
The same HC bench granted bail upon her prayer. Barrister Rafique-Ul Huq argued for Jasmine while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC.
Court sources said that the ACC in a notice asked Jasmine to submit her wealth statement on November 13 last year. Later, on November 24, she sought three-month time to do so. The ACC extended seven-day time till December 4, but she didn't submit wealth statement by that time.
On this allegation, ACC filed the case with the Ramna Model Police Station on December 11, said the sources.
