Japan is keen to go for joint venture investment in different sectors in Bangladesh like environment, food safety and infrastructure. A high-powered Japanese trade delegation is now visiting Bangladesh to undertake feasibility study in this regard.
The 30-member visiting team comprising four members of parliament of Japan showed its eagerness to invest here in a meeting with Bangladesh commerce minister Faruk Khan on bilateral issues on Sunday.
Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Masayuki Inoue, commerce secretary Md Golam Hossain, among others, were present at the meeting.
Commerce minister Faruk Khan said, "Bangladesh is suffering due to faulty policy of developed countries in recent economic recession and post-recession period."
The minister urged Japan to lend support to Bangladesh to get rid of the negative impact of economic recession and to protect itself from natural calamity like earthquake and tornado as Japan has enough experience in this regard.
He emphasised on the necessity to form a coordinated platform to develop the trade between the two countries.
Bangladesh exported products worth US$ 330.6 million to Japan while it imported products worth US$ 1047.1 million in 2009-10.
