Jewellery shop at Mirpur looted

Burglars made good their escape with over 965 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 0.350 million in cash from a jewellery shop at Mirpur in the capital early Sunday.
Shah Ali police said the criminals entered Dewan Jewellery housed in the ground floor of Muktijoddha Super Market and looted the gold and cash from the shop some time past Saturday midnight.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Abdul Latif said the burglars first entered into the Jyoti Cosmetics show-room, situated next to the jewellery shop and broke down the partition to enter the jewellery shop.
Manager of Dewan Jewellery Shah Alam Siddique Babul told reporters he found the lock of the shop broken when he came to the market in the morning. "Then I informed the police and the owner," he said.
Jyoti Cosmetics owner Meer Kaiser Muktadir said the burglars first entered into his shop some time Saturday night and broke the wall to commit the crime.
Mr Siddique of the jewellery shop claimed gold ornaments worth about Tk 33 million were looted from their store. But the police said the exact figure would be known after receiving official statement from the jewellery shop.
However, the police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the burglary. But they picked up eight security guards of the market for interrogation.
Besides police, members from Criminal Investigation Department has also visited the spot of occurrence and collected evidences.
