JOF to file case with election tribunal

FE Report | January 09, 2019 00:00:00

The opposition alliance Jatiye Oikya Front (JOF) announced on Tuesday three programmes--turning to the election tribunal of the Election Commission over voting flaws, national dialogues and visit to affected areas of the country-in the wake of the December 30 general election.

The JOF will file a case with the election tribunal over the electoral flaws and irregularities in the just-concluded 11th parliamentary elections.

The programmes were chalked out at a steering committee meeting of the alliance at the Bailey Road residence of JOF convener Dr. Kamal Hossain in the capital.

Disclosing the meeting outcomes, JOF spokesperson and BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they would hold national dialogues with different stakeholders regarding the controversial elections.

Reiterating the demand for holding the national elections again, he said the December 30 polls deprived the people of their right to elect their representatives to run the country.

He said they would go to Balaganj of Sylhet within a week where one of their activists was killed in the poll-time violence.

JOF convener Dr. Kamal Hossain, Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, convener of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) president Bangabir Kader Siddique and Gono Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.
