JS body for stern actions against high-rises sans parking facilities

Parliamentary standing committee on housing and public works ministry suggested the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) Tuesday to take tough actions against the high-rise buildings, having no parking and other facilities as per the approved design.   

For doing so, the city development authority should conduct inspection in the high-rise buildings, it said.

The committee also asked the Rajuk to complete the Hatirjheel project by June 2015 including land acquisition, establishment of separate thana for ensuring security, setting up of cafeteria under Rajuk's supervision, and construction of the water treatment plant to prevent water pollution of the Hatirjheel canal.

The committee made the recommendations at its 4th meeting at the parliament building. Committee chairman Dabirul Islam presided over the meeting.

In the meeting, housing ministry was asked to take steps to submit a report on the Uttara 3rd phase project of Rajuk specially on number of plots, how many plots have been allotted, how many are left for allotment in the committee's next meeting.

The committee also suggested appointment of skilled and senior lawyer to conduct cases under the ministry.

The committee discussed the present situation of various projects of Rajuk including Hatirjheel project, 1st, 2nd and 3rd phase of Uttara project, plot allotment at Purbachal and Jhilmil projects, number of class-I and class-II officers in the ministry, Rajuk and housing department. The committee also discussed in details on how many officials of the ministry and its departments have travelled abroad in last three years at the government expense.
