JS passes Public Accounts Audit Bill

The "Public Accounts Audi Bill 2026" was passed in Parliament on Wednesday aiming to enhance transparency, accountability and the optimal use of public resources in alignment with the Constitution of Bangladesh, reports UNB.
The bill, placed and moved by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, seeks to formalise and replace the "Public Accounts Audit Ordinance 2025," which was previously promulgated by the President under Article 93(3) of the Constitution when Parliament was dissolved.
The proposed legislation provides a comprehensive legal framework for the Comptroller and Auditor-General (C&AG) to audit all public accounts of the Republic including courts, government authorities, and employees. According to the bill, the law will be deemed effective from May 4, 2025.
Key provisions of the bill grant the C&AG the authority to determine the scope, methodology, and timing of audits.
