JU classes, exams suspended amid teachers' protest

The agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have suspended all classes, examinations and other academic activities in protest against the 'Prottoy pension scheme'.

Although no protests took place on Friday, weekend and evening courses were suspended with no classes or exams held.

Apart from other public universities, JU teachers are also boycotting all research, seminars, symposiums and other academic activities, calling the pension scheme 'discriminatory'.

They also refrained from participating in fresher admissions, selection board meetings, academic and examination committee meetings, and related faculty and institute activities.

Additionally, research centers, the university library, and provost offices were directed to remain closed.

JUTA President Prof Motaher Hossain told the FE that their work abstention would continue unless their demands are met.

"Weekend courses are not excluded from our protest. As directed by the federation, we have ceased all classes, exams, and other educational activities for weekend programmes as well."

The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association (FBUTA) is leading this nationwide protest to advocate for three demands: excluding university teachers from the universal pension scheme, including them in the super grade, and introducing a separate pay scale for university teachers.
