JU detains 9 students for taking drugs


The university's proctorial team, for violating the university administration ban on Wednesday, apprehended nine students, two groups of whom were involved in drug consumption.
The students were detained at 12:30 am inside a forested area of the campus.
The administration issued a notice instructing all students to return to their halls by 10 pm on December 31, and imposed a ban on the entry of people, who are not students or staff of the university until January 2, according to Professor Rashidul Alam, the proctor of the university.
He said the university imposed the ban to prevent unpleasant incidents on the campus that are part of the students' 31st night celebration.
"We were able to apprehend two groups of students involved in drug consumption," the proctor said.
The proctorial team led by Prof. Rashidul Alam monitored the students' movements through CCTV cameras at key locations on the campus and detained the students. They also recovered two bottles of local and foreign made liquor from the scene.
The detained students from the university are: Hroi Muing Sang, Krishna Chandra Barman, Md Shipon Hossain, Satirtha Biswas Badhan.
The detainees also include Dhaka Unviersity's Priyanti Nag, Thoinu Pru, and Khengcheng Fu Marma.
Among the detainees, Afrin Asha is of Uttara University, and Masui Marma is of Prime Nursing College.
The proctor said that actions will be taken against all the detainees in accordance with the laws of the university and the country.
