JU suspends 4 BCL men over beating journo

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have suspended four Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of the university unit for different terms after a probe committee found their involvement in beating up a university correspondent of UNB.

Two other students including an assistant secretary of the unit, received fines and official warnings.

The JU syndicate made the decision with the vice chancellor Professor Nurul Alam in the chair on Monday.

Aminur Rahman Sumon, a student in the Botany Department, and Md Tausif Sarar Tunan from the Geological Sciences Department have been expelled for six months and fined Tk 15,000 each.

Md Nayem Hossain, a student of the Botany Department and Hridoy, a student of the Drama and Dramatics Department have also been expelled for three months and fined Tk 10,000 each.

Meanwhile, Imtiaz Hossain Zidan from the Accounting and Information Systems Department and Abdullah Al Adnan, a history student and Joint Secretary of the university's Chhatra League unit , were fined Tk 5,000 each along with warning notices.

All of them are residents of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, enrolled in the 2018-19 session.

Earlier, on the midnight of August 21, several members of Chhatra League assaulted Asif Al Mamun, at his dorm's playground. The attack took place due to suspicions that Mamun was recording a Chhatra League meeting in the hall's guest room.
