The July Martyrs Memorial Foundation officially started its journey on Tuesday with a Tk 1.0 billion fund received from the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund.

Nahid Islam, a key coordinator of the July student movement and government adviser for information and ICT ministries, announced it at a press briefing.

We have decided to provide financial support to the poor family members of the martyrs, he said, adding that financial support will also be provided for the treatment of the persons who were injured during the revolution.

The Foundation will also provide monthly allowance to the families of the martyrs, Mr Nahid said.

Responding to a question he said that the amount of the allowance will be fixed in the meeting of the Foundation today (Wednesday).

He also mentioned that within a week the Foundation will hand over some amount for the affected families in different divisions.

He said so far they have came to know that over 800 people were killed by the then government and ruling party forces during the July revolution.

Mr Nahid also urged people from all walks of life in home and abroad to donate to the Foundation.

Responding to a question he said that if any injured person spent money on his own for his treatment, the amount will be made up.

We have asked all public and private hospitals to treat the injured persons free of cost, he mentioned.

Adviser Asif Mahmud and CA’s special assistant Mahfuz Alam, Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha, general secretary of the Foundation, were also present in the briefing moderated by Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the CA.

Mr Nahid said that the Foundation will also work for archiving the events of the student revolution, which toppled the 15 year long regime of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Hasina fled home for India on August 5, in the face of a massive mass uprising launched by the students.
