Tension was prevailing at Proshika, a non-governmental organisation, as alleged hired men of ousted chairman Kazi Faruque took over the NGO headquarters at Mirpur in the city Monday midnight.
Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi police station Iqbal Hossain told the FE they visited the spot on information that some criminals had taken over the building.
"On arrival, we came to know that the men were supporters of ex-chairman Kazi Faruque. We didn't enter the office, as we did not have instructions from higher authority," he said.
Additional police force and RAB men have been deployed on the premise to thwart unrest. The law enforcers cordoned off the office since morning and barred entry to the building.
Supporters of incumbent Proshika chairman Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan have also taken up position in front of Proshika Bhaban, chanting various slogans since morning.
The employees who could not enter the office alleged that armed musclemen of Kazi Faruque forcibly occupied the headquarters at midnight after beating up security guards.
