The Dhaka metro rail company plans to reopen Kazipara station of MRT line 6 this month, much earlier than it earlier announced which officials said due to less damage to its machinery than that of Mirpur 10 station.
Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations came under attack by angry mob during the student movement on July 19 which forced the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited to totally suspend the line operation for an indefinite period.
Although the country's first metro rail operation finally resumed on August 25,
20 days after the Sheikh Hasina government toppled, the two stations could not be opened due to the damage.
The MD who was removed from the company on Tuesday also told the media that a year may take to open the two damaged stations after visiting the stations.
After the technical committee's report, he, however, expressed hope to open the first station in the next four months.
Of the two stations, officials now said machinery on the side of Motijheel did not come under the attack for which replacement on other side will not be needed.
As many equipment and machines on Uttara side, including automatic fare collection gate, control room, passenger info display system can be replaced from other less passenger demanding stations, they said, Kazipara station is tried to be open by this month.
"We're trying to replace all these damaged machinery either from less used stations or depot's display centre for the time being," said one of them.
Meanwhile, the DMTCL started working to keep the mass rapid transit line 6 (MRT 6) from 3:30 pm to 9:40pm on September 20.
"We're working on it," said new MD Mohammad Abdur Rouf when he was asked about the date.
But, opening of the Mirpur-10 station will take time as Japanese sub contractor Nippon Signal is now examining and estimating the time and cost to replace the damaged machinery.
