BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia fell ill on Monday evening 'due to the impact of pepper spray' police used on the party leaders and activists inside her Gulshan office, reports UNB.
"The BNP chairperson fell ill due to the poisonous effect of the pepper spray," Khaleda's press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel said.
He said Dr Mohammad Mamun and Dr Shamim Reza were providing treatment to the BNP chief.
Meanwhile, most of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal leaders present at the BNP chief's office also became sick under the impact of the pepper spray, Sohel said.
When aggrieved BNP leaders and activists started hitting the BNP chief's office gate in an apparent bid to break it open after police barred Khaleda from coming out of it, police used pepper spray to disperse them.
