The Supreme Court (SC) Sunday dismissed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) plea for stay on the bail granted by the High Court (HC) to ex-premier Khaleda Zia in the Niko scam case, reports UNB.
As the long-pending ACC leave petition came up for hearing Sunday at the Appellate Division bench, counsel for the anti-corruption watchdog body Khurshid Alam Khan refrained from pressing the plea evidently at the behest of the Commission.
Accordingly, the leave petition was "dismissed for not being pressed", SC sources said about the court orders that left uninterrupted the bail the BNP chairperson is enjoying in the changed situation.
Niko scam case is one of a big lot of graft cases filed against country's top politicians during the past interim regime. The ACC filed the case with Tejgaon police station against Khaleda and four others on December 9, 2007.
