Khaleda may appear in court today

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia faces an order to appear in court today (Monday) in a case against the Dinkal, a Bengali daily publication part-owned by the former prime minister, reports bdnews24.com.
The allegation is the Bangla-language daily failed to submit its financial statements to the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms.
The regulator brought allegations against 13 people including Khaleda, director of Dinkal Publications Limited, with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court for Dhaka on June 12.
According to the case filed by Abdul Mannan, deputy registrar of the joint stock companies regulator, the company jointly owned by the accused did not submit its annual financial statements from 2000 to 2007 to the regulator.
As per the Companies Act 1994, companies must submit their annual returns, AGM schedule, audit report and directors report to the regulatory body for joint stock companies every year.
Metropolitan magistrate AKM Abdullahel Baki summoned the accused to appear in court, although two of the accused have already died.
The other directors include Khaleda's son Tarique Rahman, former speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali, controversial businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, former communications minister Nazmul Huda, former BNP lawmaker and now LDP Secretary General Abdul Mannan, former state minister for energy Mosharraf Hossain and former BNP lawmaker Ali Asghar Loby.
