Khaleda may be taken to BSMMU today

BNP chief Khaleda Zia will be taken to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for medical tests today (Tuesday) if she agrees, the inspector general of prisons has said, reports bdnews24.com.
"The code of conduct does not allow jail authorities to take Khaleda Zia to the United Hospital for a medical check-up as her party demanded," Syed Iftekhar Uddin told reporters during a news briefing on Khaleda's health condition on Monday.
The BNP has long been demanding the government take Khaleda to the United Hospital for medical tests.
Khaleda's personal physicians also made the same recommendation.
"There is no scope for spending public fund on Khaleda's treatment in private hospitals under the jail code," Iftekhar said.
But any prisoner can be treated in private hospitals, if the government wants, he said. A decision needs to be taken on who will bear the treatment cost, he added.
