BNP Chairperson's Adviser Hannan Shah Tuesday said BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia should not have been arrested before completion of investigation into the case against her, reports UNB.
"The case against Bagum Zia is now under investigation and after proving the allegations the government should have arrested her. It was not fair to arrest a former Prime Minister in such a manner," he told reporters at his New DOHS residence.
Hannan expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court's order that fixed Thursday (Oct 4) as the day for hearing before a regular bench the ACC application seeking stay on the High Court order granting bail to detained former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
He said that Khaleda Zia would come back to the people after facing all legal procedures.
About cases against Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina, Hannan said, "There are many differences between the cases against Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina, because there are many evidences in Hasina's case. But Khaleda's case has no documents."
Referring to the 'reformists', he said those who claim themselves as reformists have hijacked the word, because all want inner-party reforms, including Begum Khaleda Zia.
He requested the government to reopen the BNP central office to enable the party to conduct its political activities. "Our party activities are being hampered due to our internal dispute."
Responding to a query about AL-led 14-party combine's demand to the EC to bar war criminals and religion-based parties from participating in the polls, Hannan Shah said Awami League is raising this demand only to appease its allies. "When Awami League was in power why didn't they take any initiative to do this?" asked Hannan shah.
