Khaleda urges partymen to maintain unity

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Saturday called upon her party's leaders and activists to maintain the party's unity at any cost to attain 'final victory', reports UNB. "We firmly believe that people are aggrieved following the present government's breaking of commitments, misrule, failures and repression, and people are eager for change. BNP has the efficiency and ability to lead them. It is only necessary to create confidence among people in the continuous movement and inevitable final victory." Khaleda Zia made the remarks while speaking at the opening session of a day-long meeting of the party's 386-strong National Executive Committee at Kazi Bashir Auditorium (Mahanagar Natyamanch) at Gulistan in the city Saturday. It was the second meeting of the present executive committee after the first one held on July 31 last year, following BNP's national council on December 8, 2009. The BNP chief said leaders and workers of her party would have to be more united during the present 'bad time' for the country by putting aside all their differences. The Leader of the Opposition said as the movement intensifies, participation of people will increase and the final victory would be ensured. During her 35-minute written speech, Khaleda touched various issues including price hike of essentials, law and order situation, agreements with India, share market scam, crisis of utilities and repression against political opponents by the government. On the recent share market scam, the former prime minister said people are protesting across the country following the finance minister's efforts not to disclose the names of people that appeared in the inquiry report as involved in the share market scam. She said the inquiry report has not yet been published despite the court's directive. She said it is being heard that the government has made some rules to allow earning of limitless profit by some of its 'chosen people'.
