The office-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station in the capital has been withdrawn for neglect of his duty as a daring incident of shooting and mugging took place within his command area on Thursday night.
An armed gang shot and killed Sharif Hossain Samiul, 30, and wounded his father Israil Hossain, 58, the owner of Universal Money Exchange at Motijheel, and took away currencies worth Tk 4.8 million in an attack in front of their home in Khilgaon of the capital.
"OC Sirajul Islam was withdrawn from the police station this (Friday) morning for neglect of his duty," deputy
commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ashrafuzzaman was quoted by agencies as saying.
Asked whether the OC was withdrawn over the Khilgaon incident, DC Ashrafuzzaman said, "It was not the only reason." Israil was shot in both legs and an arm. S
amiul took a shot in the chest. The latter was declared dead on arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The family said the assailants had snatched Tk 4.8 million Samiul was carrying during the attack.
