BANDARBAN, June 30 (UNB): DANIDA project officer Hossain Shahid Sumon kidnapped by tribal miscreants six days ago has been located and his rescue is now a matter of time, claimed law enforcing agencies Saturday.
"The miscreants are now in Jinnahpara, Hindumukh and Yunraipara trying to escape from the security cordon. Their food supply has been dried up. It's now matter of time to rescue Sumon," a security official told the news agency requesting anonymity.
Three persons directly involved in the kidnap have been taken into custody. Security forces are looking for Masura Master, coordinator of the DANIDA project in Thansi Upazila. Sumon was kidnapped in presence of him giving rise to suspicion that it was arranged. Mansura Mastar has gone into hiding.
Investigation showed that the kidnappers had informed their linkmen not to search Sumon. They do not want ransom and they will set him free without pre-condition.
On the day of kidnap, Sumon had handed over the charge of the project to Kirti Nishan Chakma at Thuburipara. They both started in the same vehicle. But Chakma changed the vehicle on the way. Driver unwillingly drove 7 kilometres to Thiburipara where Masura Master welcomed Sumon with garland.
Immediately masked miscreants kidnapped Sumon at gunpoint. Masura Master and officials of project partners present instead protesting the kidnap 'smiled and greeted the incident', said one official requesting anonymity.
He said Sumon unhappy at the activities of partners of the project had informed DANIDA about their irregularities in a report submitted in March. "Abduction is a stage drama to discourage Bengali officials involving in any development projects in CHT," he added.
