\\\'Komen\\\' causing rainfall, flood situation worsens

Incessant rainfall following the cyclonic storm 'Komen' caused heavy rainfall for the last four days in southern, south-eastern and central parts of the country.
It further intensified the sufferings of already flood-affected people in Bandarban, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Noakhali, Feni, Khulna and Bhola districts.
According to the deputy commissioner (DC) offices of the districts, nearly 2.0 million people have been marooned due to the flood in those areas.
However, the disaster management ministry said they are yet to declare any area as 'crisis zone'.
The worst condition was witnessed in Bandarban. The district has been disconnected from the rest of the country, as a bridge, known as Suwali, went down slightly because of flash-flood amid continuous downpour on Friday.
Vehicular movement on the bridge that connects the district with Chittagong and Cox's Bazar remains halted.
When asked, director general of Department of Disaster Management (DDM) Md Reaz Ahmed told the FE the ministry has released 7,200 tonnes of rice and Tk 17.9 million already for the flood-affected people.
According to the DDM head, 225 tonnes of rice and Tk 0.55 million have been allocated for people in Bandarban, 450 tonnes of rice and Tk 1.0 million for Chittagong, 500 tonnes of rice and Tk 2.0 million for Cox's Bazar.
Flood-hit people in Feni will get 225 tonnes of rice and Tk 45 million, and those of Noakhali 225 tonnes of rice and Tk 0.7 million.
Meanwhile, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar and Chittagong witnessed 100 to 208 mm rainfall for last 24 hours till 6.00 am Saturday.
Lakshmipur, Feni, Noakhali and Bhola experienced 45 to 60 mm rainfall during the time, according to Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD).
More than 100 villages in six upazilas of Feni have been inundated due to heavy rain and onrush of hill water over the past few days, leaving more than 0.5 million people marooned, according to the Feni DC office.
Road communication with the district town was heavily disrupted, as some roads had been waterlogged while most were submerged.   
Sufferings of the flood-affected people in Cox's Bazar further increased due to heavy rain. The district witnessed a two year record rain - 208 mm - on Saturday, according to the Met Office.  
Nearly 0.4 million people in Sadar Upazila, Chakaria, Ramu, Teknaf and Pekua were marooned due to entering of water through a devastated embankment following rise of water in the rivers Matamuhuri and Bankkhali as well as many canals amid heavy downpour and onrush of hill water.  
Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) data showed that on Saturday water in the country's 45 rivers increased while decreases in 34.
The rivers Sangu, Matamuhuri and Kopotakkho were flowing above the danger level by 145 to 62 cm.
The land depression over central part of Bangladesh and adjoining Faridpur region moved westwards and was lying over Khulna and adjoining areas. The depression was weakening, but giving heavy rainfall, the Met Office said at 6.00 pm Saturday.  
It said monsoon was also active over Bangladesh and strong elsewhere over North Bay.
Light to moderate shower accompanied by temporary gusty wind was likely to take place at most places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall in next 24 hours starting from 6.00 pm.
The country's south-eastern part is experiencing heavy rainfall. It may continue in next 24 hours, for which the flood  situation might worsen in  some  areas  of  Noakhali,  Feni,  Chittagong , Bandarban and Cox's Bazar districts, it also forecasted.
