Labaid Hospital fined Tk 0.2m

Labaid Hospital was fined Tk 0.2 million for non-compliance with building-design regulations in a mobile-court drive in Dhanmondi area of the capital on Thursday.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Executive Magistrate Jahangir Alam led the mobile court in Green Road and Dhanmondi areas.
During the drive, the mobile court visited a restaurant on the rooftop of Labaid Hospital in Dhanmondi.
The magistrate stated that the restaurant's construction was deviated from the approved design.
He emphasised that such a restaurant was not permitted to be built there.
Besides this, a gas leak was detected in a cylinder in the restaurant's kitchen. So, the mobile court imposed the fine, he added.
This action came amid fire-safety concerns following a deadly fire that claimed 46 lives in Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road in the capital on February 29.
After the tragic fire incident, the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) and two Dhaka city corporations were continuing drives to monitor and ensure compliance with safety regulations in different buildings and restaurants.
On Monday, the Keari Crescent Tower in Jigatola, home to several restaurants, was sealed off by the DSCC due to insufficient fire safety measures.
On Tuesday, the Rajuk sealed off six restaurants in Bailey Road area and fined four of them in a drive.
