KHULNA, Aug 13: Over 1000 stevedore employees at Mongla Port have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from August 17, if their five-point demand is not met by August 16. Port sources said that the employees were agitating for the restoration of various facilities withheld by the stevedores association and the port authority during the period of the caretaker government. They were also demanding payment of arrears, including festival and dress allowances. Shipping Karmachary Union held a rally in this connection Wednesday with the union president Shamsul Alam in the chair. Speakers at the rally demanded all arrear dues and other facilities. Otherwise they threatened to paralyse the port from August 17.
