CHATTOGRAM, Oct 14: Four persons including two women and a child of a family died in two separate incidents, including a landslide, in the port city on Sunday.
Fire service officials said they recovered three bodies in the early morning on information from the locals that some people had remained missing after the collapse of part of a hill on two tin-shed houses in the Firoz Shah Number 1 Jhil area the under Akbar Shah police station.
They were identified as Nurjahan Begum (45), her three-year old daughter Foizunnesa and her old mother Bibi Johra (65). They hailed from Laxmipur district, police said.
Local people told the fire service that a tree was uprooted and fell on the tin shed houses as the soil got loose after two days' rainfall due to the cyclonic storm Titli on Thursday and Friday. The tin-shed houses were constructed on the slopes in the Firoz Shah hill area.
In another incident Nure Alam Nantu (35), son of Lal Meah of Gaibandha district, died as a wall collapsed in the Rahman Nagar area under Panchlaish police station at around 1.00 am on Saturday.
Critically wounded Alam was taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Chandgaon Circle Forkan Elahi Anupam said the bodies were handed to the relatives of the victims and Tk 20,000 paid for each of the victims' families on behalf of the DC office of Chattogram.
