Law doesn't permit Khaleda to go abroad, says Anisul

FE REPORT | June 24, 2024 00:00:00

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said that the law under which BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was freed from jail suspending her sentence did not permit her to go abroad for receiving advanced medical treatment.

"As far as I know, a process is going on to place a pacemaker on her (Khaleda Zia) heart, but I don't know anything about her kidney. I have not received any new words from them (BNP or Khaleda's family) for allowing her to go abroad, so I

would not give any statement in this regard," he told the media after inaugurating the 152nd Refresher Course for the senior assistant judges or equivalent judicial officers at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital.

Mr Anisul said that the BNP chairperson's sentence was suspended on humanitarian ground by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"The BNP chief's sentence was suspended, and she was released from jail on March 25, 2020. She is now able to receive treatment at any hospital of her choice."

JATI Director General Justice Hasan Foez Siddique presided over the ceremony also addressed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar.
